News: The Streisand Foundation Turns 20
August 2006
|

All
profits
from
the
new
DVD
of
"One
Voice"
will
benefit
the
Streisand
Foundation
With
Just One
Voice,
a
Foundation
Is
Born!
It all
began
on
September
6,
1986
when
Barbra
Streisand
decided
to
give a
backyard
benefit
concert
at her
home.
In an
audio-taped
invitation
to an
exclusive
list
on
invitees,
Barbra
said,
"I
must
sing
again
to do
what I
can to
insure
a
safer
and
better
world."
To
date,
her
"One
Voice"
concert
has
raised
an
amazing
$8
million
(from
the
actual concert,
television
rights,
and
album
&
video
sales).
To
properly
channel
these
funds
where
needed,
the
Streisand
Foundation
was
born.
Over
the
years,
the
Foundation
has
made
grants
in
excess
of $15
million
to
various
political,
environmental,
and
social
causes
in
which
Barbra
believes
deeply.
Barbra's
steadfast
contributions
through
the
Foundation
over
the
past
two
decades
have
been a
boon
for
many
organizations
which
might
not
otherwise
have
had
these
critical
financial
resources
available
to
them.
So on
this
twentieth
anniversary
of the
Streisand
Foundation,
the
first
time
DVD
release
of
"One
Voice"
(September
12),
along
with
Barbra's
upcoming
nationwide
concert
tour
will
generate
even
more
funds
for
distribution
through
the
Foundation.
Give
the
little
lady a
great
big
hand.
