June 11 - The
60th Annual Tony Awards were held in New York this evening, and no,
Barbra Streisand did not make a personal appearance. Instead, viewers of
the telecast were treated to a clever opening montage of notable
personalities who have served as Tony presenters in past years. In a
"don't blink or you'll miss it" moment, they showed an all too brief
audio and video clip from Barbra's appearance on the 1967 broadcast.
That evening, she was on hand to present a Tony award to composers
Kander & Ebb for their work on the Broadway version of "Cabaret."
Barbra Streisand has appeared on two Tony awards show telecasts over the
years: as presenter in 1967, and as recipient as the special "Star of
the Decade" Tony in 1970.
