"Pierrot"

Georges Rouault, a French painter, was born in Paris in 1871. He apprenticed as a craftsman in stained glass. He became curator of the Moreau museum in 1898 and held that position until his death in 1958. His early religious paintings reflected his interest in medieval art. Many of his works were laboriously painted with heavy black outlines, reminiscent of the lead in stained glass.
