Our
On-the Scene Reports

Everyone said she'd
never sing live again, but hopes were high when Barbra Streisand
took to the stage at New York's Radio City Music Hall to receive a
special Grammy award. We were there for our first ever look at
Barbra in person. She didn't really sing, unless you count the few
notes she gave us of "You'll Never Know." But it was a first
for me, seeing Barbra in person, and I considered those few notes of
hers a legitimate musical rendition.
A Grammy
Legend
(Feb 26, 1992) - The thrill
of a lifetime occurred for me on February 26, 1992. The occasion
was the 34th Annual Grammy Awards Show from Radio City Music Hall.
I scored a last minute ticket, took my tux out of mothballs and headed
down to Rockefeller Center for the broadcast. I was going to see
Barbra Streisand - IN PERSON - for the very first time!
Barbra was receiving
the evening's Grammy Legend Award. Stephen Sondheim was on hand
to make the presentation to Barbra for her very special Grammy.
The big anticipation
of the night was whether Barbra would or would not sing before a
worldwide audience on a live broadcast. Barbra, following her
gracious acceptance speech did indeed sing. Although they were
only a few notes of You'll Never Know, sung a capella, they were
enough for me. After a lifetime of being an ardent admirer, I
finally got to see Barbra. And she sang! It was a dream
come true. |
