"All About Barbra," the longest, continuously published
Streisand periodical is about to begin a new chapter.
"All About Barbra" has been around nearly 28 years. For decades, AAB
served as the only real "go-to" source for the latest information
on Barbra's career. It has featured
insightful interviews with such notables as "Funny Girl" director
William Wyler, "Yentl" co-star Amy Irving and composer Rupert
Holmes.
Presses will grind to a halt with the release of one final
print issue later this month. Editor-in-Chief Lynne Pounder tells
us that this is not the end of "All About Barbra," just the
conclusion of its print run. "After publishing 'All About
Barbra' for almost 28 years, we realized the internet, its speed
and massive coverage, was overshadowing us."
After
they met Barbra in 2007 (photo, right), Lynne and co-editor Steven
Baxter had a revelation. "When I met Barbra backstage in
Manchester, I felt that the magazine was drawing to a close and
that at least I would be able to tell her personally. Her reaction
of 'Awww, why?' took me by surprise. We began to think, What can
we do to keep it going?"
So
what are Lynne and Steven's plans to keep things going at AAB?
Lynne promises that all is about to be revealed in their final
hard-copy issue. Here's what we know for sure. At the conclusion
of an extraordinary 28 year print run, all energies will be
redirected toward a significant on-line presence for "All About
Barbra."
Expect continued first rate reporting backed up by some of the
most accurate information available. After all, "All About Barbra"
has been officially endorsed by Barbra and her management for
years. When Lynne posts an item on the new AAB blog, you can rest
assured that it comes from a very reliable source.
For now, have a look at the current version of the
All About Barbra blog.
While you're there, don't forget to order the final print issue
while you still have a chance. It's sure to become a collector's
item.
