V. Aldredge passed away
today in
Connecticut today at the
age of 78.
Theoni V. Aldredge dressed
Barbra Streisand for both
stage and screen - some 34
years apart. Aldredge designed
the costumes for the 1962
Broadway production of "I
Can Get It For You
Wholesale," including the
original Miss Marmelstein
outfits Barbra wore in the
show. Three and a half
decades later, the legendary designer
was hired by Barbra to create
the costumes for the 1996

designed for included
Stephen Sondheim's first
musical, "Anyone Can

Hamlisch's "A Chorus
Line." She also dressed
Lauren Bacall for "Woman

Nominated for three
Academy Awards over the
span of her career,
Aldredge finally took home
the Best Costume Design
