Though she was
awarded a special Tony as "Star of the Decade," the fact remains:
Barbra has never won a Tony Award for either of her two legitimate
Broadway performances. With her upcoming concert tour coming to New
York, Barbra can give Tony voters a chance to set things right.

* And Erase that Asterisk
June 11, 2006
Seeing
Barbra's 1967 Tony awards
clip on tonight's telecast
was a reminder that she
has never won a Tony Award
for any of her Broadway
shows. Barbra was
nominated for "Funny Girl"
and "Wholesale," but lost
on both occasions. Her
Tony finally came in the
form of a special "Star of
the Decade" award in 1970.
But with her special Tony
came an asterisk. The
reality is that Barbra has
never won a Tony for a
specific performance.
Barbra
will return to New York in concert this fall and probably play Madison
Square Garden. Though unlikely, we feel that she should give a few
performances at a legitimate Broadway theatre, maybe even the
venerable old Winter Garden, where she last performed in a Broadway
show. Barbra might then qualify for a legitimate Tony award next year,
give the American Theatre Wing voters a chance to right an egregious
wrong, and remove that asterisk forever!
