Glenn
Close. who worked with
Barbra Streisand on the
1995 television drama
"Serving In Silence" was
one of the main headliners
in a reading of "The
Normal Heart" at
Broadway's Walter Kerr
Theatre last night.
Original "Normal Heart"
cast member Joel Grey
directed. Others in the
new cast included Joe
Mantello, Victor Garber,
Patrick Wilson and Jack
McBrayer. The performance
was a benefit for The
Actors Fund.
This is one of the few
times Larry Kramer's
off-Broadway play, which
deals with early days of
the AIDS epidemic, was
performed on a legitimate
Broadway stage. [Read
the New York Times review].
In
1993, Barbra participated
with Kramer (and cast
members
Tony Roberts, Stockard
Channing, Harry Hamlin,
Eric Bogosian & Kevin
Bacon)
in another reading of his
play at Broadway's
Roundabout
Theatre

For
years, Barbra collaborated
with Kramer on plans to
bring "The Normal Heart"
to the screen. It was a
film that Barbra so
desperately wanted to
make. Sadly, undisclosed
differences ended their
partnership and Barbra's
vision to direct the film
was never realized.
Recently, it was announced
that "Glee" creator Ryan
Murphy was chosen to
direct the picture. |
