"My Passion for Design"
(Our Review)
There is a bit
of cautionary advice that Barbra Streisand offers readers at the
beginning of her new book, "My Passion for Design": "There may be more
details about paneling and paint in this book than you ever could have
imagined or ever wanted to know. If you don't want to read about it, I
understand. Just look at the pictures."
With all due respect to the author, do read every word. In fact,
examine each word carefully or you'll miss a very important aspect of
the book: the intimate and introspective portrait Barbra paints of
herself.

To
promote
the
release
of
her
upcoming
book,
Barbra
made
a
personal
appearance
at
BookExpo
America
at
the
Javits
Convention
Center
in
New
York
last
night.
Barbra
was
the
event's
keynote
guest
and
participated
in
an
on-stage
interview
conducted
by
"O"
magazine
editor,
Gail
King.
The
interview
stayed
pretty
much
on
point
with
Barbra
offering
her
insights
about
color,
aesthetics
and
the
importance
of
integrating
interior
with
exterior
design
elements.
Barbra
told
familiar
stories
of
her
childhood
and
how
those
experiences
later
influenced
her
creative
instincts
in
the
design
of
her
various
homes.
The
Streisand
appearance
was
accompanied
by a
brief
slide
show
presentation
during
which
Barbra
offered
a
sneak
peek
at
some
of
the
exquisite
photos
she
personally
took
of
her
home,
many
of
which
will
probably
be
included
in
the
final
version
of
her
book.
Barbra
was
asked
why
she
chose
the
topic
of
design
for
her
first
book,
instead
of a
much
anticipated
autobiography.
According
to
USA
Today,
she
said,
"I'm
a
little
too
private.
I'm
not
ready
to
write
about
my
life,"
Barbra
went
on
to
explain
that
she
got
tired
after
writing
a
few
chapters
of
her
autobiography.
"This
is
hard.
I'd
rather
write
a
book
about
design."
