Cast Nuts, Owl

December 5, 2011 |
Hollywood casting director
Marion Dougherty died
yesterday at her home in
New York. She was 88.
Dougherty was responsible
for bringing together some
of the most accomplished
Hollywood actors to appear
with Barbra Streisand on
the big screen.
Dougherty
cast the film Nuts.
Need we say more?
With all due respect to
Fockers, 1987's
Nuts had the most
impressive cast of stars
ever assembled for a
Streisand film. Oscar
winners Richard Dreyfuss,
Maureen Stapleton and Karl
Malden were cast along
side respected veterans
Eli Wallach, James
Whitmore, Leslie Nielsen
and Robert Webber. The
result was a series of
phenomenal character
portrayals, one better
than the other. Working
with this A Team inspired
Barbra to give one of the
best performances of her
career.
Dougherty worked on two
other Streisand films as
well. She did the casting
for The Owl and the
Pussycat (1970) and
later, For Pete's Sake
(1974).
In For Pete's Sake,
Dougherty hired another
Oscar winner – Estelle
Parsons – to co-star with
Barbra. |
