You
never know when a group of people is going to break out in
'spontaneous' song and dance.
Such was the case in 2009 when a Flash Mob performed a Streisand
classic in lower Manhattan. |

The
newest
fad
breaking
out
all
across
the
U.S.
is
the
"Flash
Mob"
experience.
These
impromptu
performances
usually
take
place
in
crowded
urban
settings
among
throngs
of
unsuspecting
pedestrians.
A
well
rehearsed
group
of
singers
and
dancers will
suddenly
break
out
into
song
-
usually
a
familiar
Broadway
number
-
complete
with
an
audio
track,
professional
choreography
and
props.
In
July
of
2009,
a
Flash
Mob
took
over
the
South
Street
Seaport
in
New
York
City
for
a
sudden,
and
completely
unexpected
rendition
of a
Barbra
Streisand
classic.
A
professional
video
using
10
HD
cameras
captured
this
Flash
Mob's
brilliant
performance
of
"Don't
Rain
On
My
Parade."
You
can
watch
it
here.
It's
probably
coincidental,
but
the
choice
of
the
South
Street
Seaport
as a
location
for
this
particular
Flash
Mob
experience
is
interesting.
In
"Funny
Girl,"
a
key
scene
from
Barbra's
own
rendition
of
"Don't
Rain
On
My
Parade"
was
actually
filmed
just
a
few
blocks
away
- on
a
pier
adjacent
to
the
South
Street
Seaport
next
to
the
Manhattan
Bridge
(right).
