Barbra
and
Michel

always prepared, scripted, and fully rehearsed wasn't ready for what

Appalled and Stunned
September 1, 2006
She
had
performed
on
live
television
before,
but
nothing
could
have
prepared
Barbra
for
what
happened
during
a live
TV
broadcast
in
Paris,
1984.
Barbra
was
on the
French
talk
show "Champs-Élysées"
to
promote
"Yentl"
only
to
have
been
forced
into
an
unrehearsed
live
performance.
As the
cameras
rolled,
Barbra
was
coerced
by the
show's
host
into
singing.
Barbra
protested
rather vigerously,
but
she
handled
the
crisis
with
total
professionism.
With Michele Legrand on the piano, Barbra performed "What Are You
Doing The Rest of Your Life." She truly didn't remember the lyrics and
ended up humming most of the melody. In a rare, but still
extraordinary moment, Barbra
gave
what
was perhaps
the
only
unprepared
performance
of her
entire career. |
