Today is July 2,
2009, the 40th
anniversary of the
Las Vegas Hilton
(formerly known as
the
International). It
is also the 40th
anniversary of
Barbra Streisand's
July 2, 1969
opening night
performance in
their brand new
showroom. The
Hilton Hotel has
chosen a very
creative way to
mark the occasion. |

Special
Barbra (and Elvis) Gaming Chips Issued
July
2, 2009
With little fanfare (and
almost no publicity), the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel has chosen to mark the 40th
anniversary of it's 1969 grand opening by quietly issuing a pair
of
commemorative gaming chips in honor of their first two
headliners. The two separately issued chips bear the vintage marquee image from
either Barbra Streisand's or Elvis Presley's landmark engagements back in
the day.
Barbra, was of course, the hotel's very first headliner, but it
was Elvis's long term association with the hotel that turned him
into the true iconic cliché of Las Vegas.
The special edition chips are numbered and can only be
purchased by visiting the
casino's cashier (the special
chips are not being used
for general gaming at the tables). Nevada gaming laws prohibit
any casino from mailing chips to collectors, so you must
personally visit the
hotel if you'd like to obtain them. There is a limit of four chips
(two Barbra, two Elvis)
per customer. |
