On "The Today Show" this
morning, child prodigy
Jackie Evancho told Kathie
Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb all about her recent duet with Barbra Streisand
while
shedding
a
little
more
light
on
the
subject:
"Well actually, what happened was, we didn't sing together. David Foster did his recording studio magic and we were in different studios and he put our voices together. He did say that she said great things about my voice."
Although we know that a previously recorded Streisand track from 1985 was used
on the duet, it
appears that
Barbra might have been asked by David Foster to re-dub a
couple
of
notes. Off camera,
Foster told Kathie Lee
Gifford that Barbra was so thrilled about the project and wanted everything to be perfect that she even offered to come in "to fix or do anything."
Whatever actually happened, it looks like Barbra had a little something to do with the creation of the duet.

Duet Premieres on PBS
June 5, 2011
Jackie Evancho's
much
heralded
duet
with
Barbra
Streisand
had
its
world
premiere
on
PBS
this
evening
during
Jackie's
"Dream
With
Me
In
Concert"
television
special.
The
duet
was,
of
course
"Somewhere"
and
was
performed
in tandem
with
what
looked
like
an
alternate
Streisand
take
from
her
1985
video
session.
We
were
pleasantly
surprised
at
how
well
the
duet
succeeded
as a
visual
spectacle
in
front
of a
live outdoor audience in Sarasota,
Florida.
Jackie's
vocals
were
in
perfect
synch
and
harmony
with
Barbra's
prerecorded
track.
The
entire
video
effect,
along
with
David
Foster's
updated
musical
arrangement
made
this
performance
the
crowd
pleaser
of
the
evening.

The Child Prodigy and The
Legend
March 31 2011
UPDATE: Barbra may
have been in the studio to
lend a helping hand, but
according to those close
to Barbra's camp (our
friends at BarbraNews.com),
"no new Barbra vocals
were used on this
recording. Jackie's vocals
were blended with the
original recording."
March 29, 2011 According to a promotional
video (below), producer
David
Foster
has
confirmed
that 10
year-old
America's
Got
Talent
phenom
Jackie
Evancho's
new
album
will
feature
a
duet with Barbra Streisand.
The
album,
called
"Dream
With
Me"
is
being
produced
by
Foster
and
will
contain
14
tracks.
Among
them
are
two
duets:
"Somewhere"
with
Barbra
Streisand
and
"A
Mother's
Prayer"
with
Susan
Boyle.
The
album
drops
June
14.

Dream With Me
In
the
promo,
Foster
notes
that
Barbra
and
Jackie
actually
worked
together
on
the
duet,
so
we
are
cautiously
optimistic
that
this
version
of
"Somewhere"
will
contain
new
Streisand
vocals.
However,
there is still the chance
that Barbra attended the
recording session (at
Foster's Malibu home) as
an advisor. Were Jackie's
vocals simply mixed in
with the original track of
"Somewhere" which Barbra's
recorded for "The Broadway
Album"? We'll just have to
wait until June 14 to find
out for sure.
Foster
produced
the
"Somewhere"
track
for Barbra
back
in
1985,
fifteen years
before
Evancho
was
born.
