"Hello, Dolly!" Choreographer

December 24, 2007
Hollywood and Broadway lost one of their most beloved choreographers with the passing of Michael Kidd at his home in Los Angeles yesterday.

Kidd, who was 92, is perhaps best known to Streisand fans as the man who gave Barbra all of her wonderful dance moves in the 1969 film, "Hello, Dolly!".

On Broadway, Kidd won several Tony awards, including one for choreographing the original production of "Guys and Dolls." For the film version, Kidd was brought in to work with Marlon Brando and to stage the film's musical numbers. On television Kidd earned an Emmy nomination for directing Mikhail Baryshnikov in his 1981 special, "Baryshnikov in Hollywood." Michael Kidd was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1997.
