Appearances on GMA,
Nightline & Larry
King
December 15, 2010
Barbra
was all over television
today as she
made the interview rounds,
promoting "Little Fockers"
and her new book, "My
Passion for Design."
In a rare hat trick, Barbra
appeared on ABC's "Good Morning
America," CNN's "Larry King
Live" and ABC's "Nightline."
"Good Morning America"
and "Nightline"
During
the "Good Morning America"
interview, Barbra
re-confirmed what was
already revealed this past
Saturday: that she will
begin recording another
album in January. But once
again the interviewer,
this time Robin Roberts,
failed to ask Barbra any
specifics about the
project.
Barbra did discuss "Little
Fockers" and even watched
a clip from the film
during the interview
(right). The topic of
movie making came up when
Roberts told Barbra that
James Brolin thinks she
has "one big movie" left
in her. Barbra replied,
"Just one?" before
admitting that her total of 18 films is very
few in a career. Again,
something we already know.
That being said, Barbra
mentioned that she'd like
to do direct a movie
again, revealing that
making a movie is "easier
than building a house" - a
sentiment she continued to
expound upon during the
conclusion of her
interview on "Nightline."
The "Nightline" portion of
the interview turned
serious as Barbra was
given a chance to discuss
the harsh nature of
women's heart disease.
Roberts mentioned that a
portion of the proceeds
from the sale of Barbra's
book will go toward
Barbra's efforts to fund
research to find a cure.
The ABC interview was
conducted in The Great
Room, the magnificent
entry space Barbra
constructed in The Barn.
The segment also included a
brief exterior tour of The Barn,
incorporating some of the
visuals and narrative from
Barbra's "My Passion for
Design" DVD. Barbra then
took Roberts on a brief
walk around the grounds of
her property.
"Larry King Live"
Over
on CNN, Larry King and
Barbra held court for a
full hour in an interview
that covered a wide array
of topics. Sitting in the
foyer of her main
residence (right), King
began by praising Barbra's
new book and giving Barbra
an opportunity to discuss
her efforts as an author.
Barbra told King that, had
things turned out
differently for her, she
might have actually
pursued a career as a
designer.
King presented the usual
questions about the
extraordinary nature of
Barbra's talent. The
best answer Barbra gave to
any of King's questions
came when he asked her to
specifically define her
profession (i.e., what
would it say on her
driver's license?).
Barbra's response was
simple: "Self employed."
The interview included a
brief discussion of
"Little Fockers." Barbra
mentioned that she had
originally turned down the
role of Roz Focker but
couldn't quite remember
the moment when she agreed
to play the part.
Fortunately, someone
off-camera chimed in,
reminding Barbra that it
was a phone call from Ben
Stiller that clinched the
deal.
The interview's more
interesting moments came
when the topic turned
political. Barbra
expressed frustration at
the the recent election
outcome and her
disappointment with the
her party's inability to
effectively get its
message across to voters.
This was Barbra's third
appearance with Larry
King, and she had the
distinction of being his
very last "exclusive"
guest. King retires after
just one more episode that
will feature tribute
appearances by a number of
people.
