Oscar and Emmy award winning actress Maureen Stapleton
passed away on March 13 of natural causes. Stapleton appeared in over 35
motion pictures, including the Barbra Streisand film, "Nuts," where she
gave an emotionally charged performance as the mother of Streisand's
character, Claudia.
Stapleton was nominated three times before winning her only Oscar, playing
Emma Goldman in the 1981 film, "Reds" opposite Warren Beatty and Diane
Keaton She was also a member of The Actors Studio.
Stapleton was married at one time to David Rayfiel, one of the un-credited
writers who worked with Arthur Laurents on the screenplay of The Way We
Were.
Maureen Stapleton was 80 and resided in New York.
