MusiCares
Honors Barbra
February 12, 2011
Barbra
was
honored
as
the
MusiCares
Person
of
the
Year
at
an
elaborate
ceremony
in
Los
Angeles
last
night.
She
walked
the
red
carpet
escorted
by
husband
Jim
and
Grammys CEO Neil Portnow
(right).
As
is
her
style,
Barbra
didn't
say
all
that
much
as
she
and
Jim
made
their
was
into
the
Los
Angeles
Convention
Center.
She
was
apparently
saving
her
voice
for
the
big
finale
and
a
heartfelt
speech.
Here
are
just
a
few
comments
Barbra
shared
with
her
audience:
"I said yes [to the
MusiCares honor]
because it's such a
wonderful organization
that takes care of their
own - the people who
actually create the
music."
"My niece recently watched
a DVD of 'Funny Girl' for
the first time and asked
why I was singing songs
from 'Glee.' "
"I love music for what
it does for the soul, how
it elevates the moment,
the emotions ... I love
music for what it's given
me. It gave me a job when
I couldn't get a job as an
actress. I love how music
binds us together. It also
reflects the times we live
in.."
The
biggest
names
in
popular
music
serenaded
Barbra
with
her
own
familiar
standards.
Barbra
reciprocated
by
closing
out
the
show
with
an
eight
song
mini
set,
or
her
leftovers,
as
she
called
them.
