L.A.'s
Funny
Girl
Benefit
CANCELLED
February 3, 2011
Since
news
of
the
benefit
performance
of
"Funny
Girl"
was
announced
by
the
Actors
Fund
(on
their
web
site),
things
have
changed
and
the
performance
has
been
cancelled.
The
president
of
The
Actors
Fund
confirmed
to
Playbill.com
that
the
show
will
definitely
not
go
on.
The
benefit
of
"Funny
Girl"
was
scheduled
for
March
at
the
Pantages
Theatre
and
was
to
feature
the
return
of
Lainie
Kazan
to
the
role
of
Fanny
Brice
-
the
same
part
she
understudied
during
the
original
Barbra
Streisand
Broadway
run
in
1964.
The
enormity
of
the
project
and
various
scheduling
conflicts
apparently
got
in
the
way
of
making
this
benefit
performance
a
reality.
Let's
hope
they
give
it
another
go
soon.
Lainie
Kazan
to
Return
to
"Funny
Girl"
January 31, 2011
Yes,
you
read
it
right.
Lainie
Kazan,
who
understudied
for
Barbra
in
"Funny
Girl"
on
Broadway
will
be
returning
to
the
role
of
Fanny
Brice
in
March.
The
Actor's
Fund
is
mounting
a
new
version
of
its
unique
benefit
at
the
Pantages
in
L.A.
It
was
first
staged
on
Broadway
in
2002.

Kazan
will
be
one
of a
dozen
or
so
Fanny
Brices
who
will
perform
on
stage.
Each
actress
gets
one
number
to
sing,
making
this
a
most
inventive
staging
of
the
landmark
musical.
Other
participants
announced
so
far
are
Laura
Benanti,
Sarah
Silverman,
Lillias
White
and
Julia
Murney.
White
and
Murney
were
in
the
original
New
York
benefit
in
'02.
