Barbra's
Excellent
Adventure
(review)
May 12, 2007
In
time,
Barbra
Streisand's
new
album,
Streisand
Live
in
Concert
2006,
will
prove
to be
one of
the
most
celebrated
recordings
ever
released
by the
irreplaceable
songstress.
With a
focus
on the
music,
the
album
manages
to
bring
the
magic
of her
recent
North
American
concert
tour
right
into
your
living
room.
The
mood
and
excitement
of
actually
being
at one
of the
shows
is the
real
bonus
feature
of
this
particular
recording.
It's
the
best
live
performance
Barbra
has
released
since
Live
Concert
at the
Forum.
Unlike
her
last
two
concert
CDs,
there
are no
story
lines
to
follow
here.
There
are no
Catskill
piano
players,
overprotective
mothers
or
psychotherapists
on
hand
to
narrate.
Live
in
Concert
2006
is all
about
the
music,
and
the
vocal
selections
Streisand
offers
will
have
fans
begging
for
more.
Reaching
back
to the
canon
of her
performing
roots,
Barbra
brings
out
the
fine
china
in the
form
of
some
of her
most
popular
1960s
standards.
It's
been
years
since
we
heard
her
sing
Down
With
Love
and
When
the
Sun
Comes
Out*,
and
these
2006
reinventions
are
nothing
short
of
spectacular.
And
even
her
versions
of the
often
performed
classics
from
"Funny
Girl"
seem
breathtakingly
alive
with
new
energy.
Hearing
Barbra's
current
live
renditions
of
these
Styne-Merrill
chestnuts
is the
next
best
thing
to
actually being
at the
Winter
Garden
in
1964.
Il
Divo
appeared
as
Barbra's
special
guests
during
the
run of
her
concert
tour
and
they
are
represented
on the
CD in
three
shared
performances
with
Barbra.
Together,
this
quintet
does
indeed
generate
some
fairly
decent
melodies.
Andrew
Lloyd
Webber's
Music
of the
Night
is a
perfect
choice
for
the
Streisand-Divo
Act II
opener,
but
it's
Barbra
who
ultimately
owns
the
ballad
with a
beautiful
vocal
that
thankfully
manages
to
tower
over
the
boys'
excessive
harmonies.
Our
favorite
performance
of the
actual
concert
was
(Have
I
Stayed)
Too
Long
At The
Fair?.
On
record,
it
still
manages
to be
Streisand's
best
vocal.
Maybe
it's
the
lyrics
she
sings,
but
somehow
Barbra
manages
to
deliver
this
particular
ballad
with
amazingly
fine-tuned
vocal
precision.
It's
pure
Streisand
at her
best.
Streisand
Live
in
Concert
2006
was
recorded
at her
shows
in
Washington,
New
York
and
Florida.
The
best
of
these
performances
is
somehow
blended
into
what
appears
to be
a
single,
seamless
concert.
Kudos
to the
folks
in the
editing
room.
And
props
to
conductor
Bill
Ross
and
the
other
arrangers
who
managed
to
orchestrate
some
of the
finest
music
ever
to
back
up
Streisand.
Together,
Barbra's
vocals,
the
music,
and
the
editing
give
this
recording
the
rare
quality
of
actually
being
in the
concert
arena.
Barbra's
CD
recording
of her
live
performance
captures
the
moment
like
no
other
live
recording
before
it.
Like
the
actual
concert
tour,
this
new CD
is a
true
Streisand
adventure,
seeped
in
excellence.

"Live"
May 9, 2007
Rosie
O'Donnell
got on
the
Barbra
bandwagon
once
again
this
morning,
this
time
promoting
Barbra's
new
CD,
"Streisand
Live
in
Concert

Audience
members
who
were
on
hand
for
the
broadcast
of
"The
View"
each
received
a copy
of the
new
CD. In
addition,
two
lucky
people,
one
from
the
studio
audience
along
with a
home
viewer,
will
join
Rosie
in
London
for
Barbra's
concert
on
July
18th.

The
last
time
Rosie
promoted
a
Streisand
album
was
during
her
1997
talk
show.
She is
credited
with
helping
propel
"Higher
Ground"
to the
number
1
position
on the
charts.

Familiar

Januery 27 2007
The new CD from Barbra's 2006 concert tour is
expected to hit store shelves this spring
according to amazon.com, where pre-orders are
currently being taken. The stunning cover art
for Barbra's newest album, entitled "Streisand
Live in Concert 2006" is strikingly similar to
the cover from one of her earliest releases,
1964's "The Third Album." Is the similarity in
album designs just a case of coincidence, or is
it an artistic homage to Barbra's recent 1960s
themed concert? Knowing Barbra's penchant for
detail, we'd like to assume the latter.
