Caught in the Crowd ...

June 2010

June 21, 2010 - Barbra played an avid sports fan in "The Mirror Has Two Faces." And she's a sports fan in real life, too. Whenever she attends a game or a match, TV cameras always manage to capture a glimpse.

So with the start of the tennis at Wimbledon today, we thought we'd look back at a few of Barbra Streisand's moments as a sports fan, each of which were originally broadcast on live television.

Wimbledon
June 30, 1993

Like any other fan, distance and borders mean nothing for Barbra in her quest to follow her favorite star. So on June 30, 1993, Barbra went to Wimbledon to watch Andre Agassi. Those who were watching the quarterfinals at home on TV got several glimpses of Barbra as Agassi struggled against Pete Sampras. Sitting in a courtside box with the Agassi camp, Barbra's enthusiastic support fell a bit short. Agassi lost to Sampras in five sets.

Dodger Stadium

Barbra and husband James Brolin were enjoying some post-season baseball action in the fall of 2008. Eagle-eyed Fox broadcasters spotted them in the owner's box at Dodger Stadium on October 13.

Louis Armstrong Stadium
Sep 5, 1992

Barbra was a fixture out in Flushing Meadows during the U.S. Open Tennis tournament in 1992 and attended two matches. Her favorite player was featured during a day match on Saturday, September 5. Barbra agreed to a live on-air interview from her box seats during a changeover. The interview continued as the match resumed with Barbra offering her own play-by-play. Oh, the player Barbra came out to cheer was Andre Agassi. And it was during this interview when she referred to him as a "Zen Master."

L.A. Forum
June 19, 1988

They were dating in 1988 when TV cameras caught Barbra and "Miami Vice" star Don Johnson at the Los Angeles Forum, sitting courtside at a Laker's game on June 19. That's Barbra, seated (in white), in the center of the action.

At The Emmys
Sep 8, 2001

Though she couldn't attend the World Series in 2001 (too busy collecting an Emmy for "Timeless"), Barbra demonstrated tremendous excitement for her home town baseball team during a live post-Emmy interview. Back stage, people were glued to the Series, and Barbra exploded with excitement when the New York Yankees scored to take the lead. Alas for Barbra and other Yankee fans, the evening ended in heartbreak as the Diamondbacks clinched the Series.
