In an episode
that was broadcast today, Barbra Streisand called in to the popular
daytime television show, "The Doctors" in support of cardiovascular
research for women. The discussion with Barbra was brief but no less
important as it helped place a focus on women's health as it pertains
to heart disease. Barbra spoke of the need for specific research for
women while mentioning the history of heart disease in her own family.
In 2008, Barbra provided the Cedars-Sinai Women's Heart Institute with
a $5 million endowment for what is now called The Barbra Streisand
Women's Cardiovascular Research and Education Program. Her gift
will specifically promote advances in the area of cardiovascular
research for women.
Barbra has been a long time advocate and supporter of women's health
programs. In 1968, the Hollywood premiere of "Funny Girl" was actually
a benefit for Cedars-Sinai's Women's Heart Guild..
