At the Guernsey's auction yesterday, Lot 52, the rare Streisand recordings from 1961 ("Come To The Supermarket In Old Peking" and "Have I Stayed Too Long At The Fair?") did not sell. The item was expected to fetch between $10,000 and $20.000.


Streisand '61 Test Demo Up for Bids

On NBC's "Today Show" this morning, a brief
cut from a rare Barbra Streisand recording was played. The audio, "Come to the Supermarket" is from a test demo Barbra recorded in 1961. The record will be auctioned on Sept. 24 at Guernsey's in New York.

Catalogue Listing: Lot 52 Barbra Streisand's First Recording, 1961
This privately-pressed demo is believed to be the only one in existence. It contains renditions of two of Barbra Streisand’s all-time classics that can be heard nowhere else in the world – “I Stayed Too Long at the Fair” and Cole Porter’s “The Supermarket in Old Peking”.
